Is it normal for the temperature gauge to fluctuate between low and high?

Fluctuations between low and high on the temperature gauge are abnormal. Possible causes for this fluctuation include: 1. Scale buildup on the contact surface between the temperature sensor and coolant; 2. Aging of the thermistor; 3. Malfunctioning voltage regulator; 4. Short circuit in the temperature gauge heating coil or the needle rubbing against the surface. Reasons for high temperature readings are: 1. Insufficient antifreeze in the engine cooling system; 2. Faulty thermostat causing overheating; 3. Abnormal operation of the cooling fan, leading to poor heat dissipation of the coolant; 4. Pump malfunction, resulting in poor pump rotation; 5. Oil contamination in the radiator. Solutions for an overheating car engine include: 1. Pull over to the roadside; 2. Cover the radiator cap with a repeatedly folded wet cloth, then slightly loosen the cap to allow steam to escape slowly; 3. Monitor the temperature gauge on the dashboard and, once the radiator pressure decreases, add cool water or antifreeze.
