Is It Normal for the Exhaust Pipe to Smell Like Gasoline?

It is normal for the exhaust pipe to smell like gasoline. Gasoline is highly volatile. During engine operation, the fuel injector works to deliver gasoline into the engine's cylinders. Additionally, the fuel injection volume is higher during a cold start, so before the engine fully warms up, some unburned air-fuel mixture may reach the exhaust pipe. As a result, volatile gasoline can escape through the exhaust pipe into the air. However, this mixture has been processed by the spark plugs, so it contains not only gasoline but also other gases. During a cold start, the engine may experience delayed combustion, which can also lead to gasoline being expelled through the exhaust pipe.
