Installing a rear spoiler is considered illegal and falls under unauthorized vehicle modifications. Driving a car with illegal modifications on public roads will result in the vehicle being impounded by traffic authorities, the illegal modifications being confiscated, and the owner being ordered to restore the vehicle to its original condition, along with a fine of 200 yuan. Conditions for legally installing a rear spoiler: First, apply for a modification registration: For vehicles with illegal modifications, traffic authorities will not issue a safety inspection certificate. If the modification constitutes a violation of public security management, the public security authorities will impose penalties such as fines or detention in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Public Security Administration Punishment Law. Register with the Vehicle Management Office: To install a rear spoiler, you must first register with the Vehicle Management Office. Only after approval can the modification proceed. After installation, the vehicle must be photographed at the Vehicle Management Office. The modification must not exceed the specified limits and must be approved to be considered legal. Article 16 of the Road Traffic Safety Law clearly states that no unit or individual may assemble a motor vehicle or alter its registered structure, construction, or features without authorization.
