Is it harmful to shift into P gear before the car comes to a complete stop?

Shifting into P gear before the car comes to a complete stop can cause significant damage to the vehicle's transmission system. If this practice is repeated over time, it can lead to severe wear and tear on the transmission, and in extreme cases, render the transmission unusable. When you shift into P gear while the car is still moving, it is equivalent to bringing the vehicle to an abrupt halt, forcibly locking the output shaft of the transmission. This can cause mechanical shock to both the parking brake and the locking mechanism of the transmission. The correct procedure for parking and shifting gears is as follows: Before coming to a stop, the car should first decelerate. Once the car is completely stationary, shift from D gear to N gear, engage the handbrake, release the foot brake, and then turn off the engine. After the engine is off, shift from N gear to P gear, and finally remove the key. It is important to note that for automatic transmission vehicles, the brake pedal must be pressed before parking; otherwise, shifting gears will not be possible.
