Is It Good to Cover a Car with a Car Cover for a Long Time?

It is good to cover a car with a car cover for a long time. If a vehicle is parked for an extended period, using a car cover can be beneficial. The car cover can effectively protect the car's paint and help control the interior temperature, especially for vehicles with light-colored paint. Prolonged exposure to sunlight and rain can cause the paint to oxidize and turn yellow, so it is advisable to use a car cover when the vehicle is parked for a long time. A car cover is a high-performance, eco-friendly film widely used in the automotive beauty and maintenance industry. It is commonly known as a transparent paint protection film. Once applied, it isolates the car's paint from the air, providing long-lasting protection. Car covers are highly durable, resistant to wear, do not yellow easily, are easy to apply, and can withstand collisions and scratches. They also protect against acid rain, oxidation, and scratches after application.
Using a car cover depends on the situation. I've been researching vehicle protection for over a decade. Car covers do provide protection against sun, rain, and bird droppings, especially when parked outdoors long-term, preventing UV-induced paint aging. However, there are clear drawbacks - the constant friction from putting on/removing the cover can wear the paint surface (my friend's car developed fine scratches). In winter, removing frozen covers is particularly difficult and may damage side mirrors if forced. It's worse in humid southern regions where trapped moisture under the cover accelerates metal component rusting. During summer, covers also hinder engine bay heat dissipation after sun exposure. My advice: skip the cover for garage parking; for long-term outdoor parking, choose soft-lined covers to minimize friction damage.
