Is it difficult to remove the throttle body for cleaning on the MG ZS?

The throttle body cleaning on the MG ZS is not particularly difficult to remove. The correct procedure involves fully detaching the throttle body for cleaning. There is a connector next to the throttle body that needs to be unplugged before removal. For vehicles where the connector is not frequently removed, it might be tight and challenging to detach. In such cases, a small screwdriver can be used to gently pry around the connector to loosen it, making it easier to remove. Throttle body cleaning interval: It is generally recommended to clean the throttle body every 20,000 to 40,000 kilometers. However, this is only a reference value, and the actual cleaning interval should be determined based on factors such as the air environment where the vehicle is used, the type of engine oil, the frequency of air filter replacement, and driving habits. Symptoms indicating the need for throttle body cleaning: If you notice symptoms such as insufficient engine air intake, unstable idle speed, a sudden feeling of throttle closure while driving, reduced power, difficulty starting the engine, or increased fuel consumption, it might be time to clean the throttle body.
I cleaned the throttle body of my MG ZS by myself some time ago, and honestly, it was quite a hassle. Its design position is quite recessed, with intake pipes and wiring harnesses blocking the way. You have to remove the engine cover and part of the intake piping just to access the throttle body screws. The screws are hex socket type and positioned in particularly awkward spots—just finding the right extension took ages. After removal, you have to handle the sealing ring carefully, as it can easily deform if mishandled. Reassembly is even worse, as those hidden mounting bolts require precise alignment to screw back in. Overall, without professional tools and a lift, spending three to four hours crouched in front of the engine bay is common. Beginners really shouldn’t attempt this on their own.
