It is allowed not to display vehicle insurance and annual inspection stickers. Since 2020, China has implemented electronic vehicle inspection labels nationwide. The electronic vehicle inspection label has the same legal effect as the paper version. Vehicles that have obtained the electronic inspection label are no longer required to display paper stickers, and traffic police will not penalize vehicles for not displaying (or pasting) inspection stickers. When encountering traffic police inspection during driving: When stopped for inspection by traffic police, drivers can proactively present the electronic inspection label. The officer will scan the QR code on the electronic label using law enforcement terminals to verify its validity and the vehicle's status. If the electronic label is not presented: If the electronic label is not shown, the officer will check the vehicle's status through law enforcement terminals or information systems to confirm whether the vehicle is within the valid inspection period. For vehicles within valid inspection period: For vehicles within the valid inspection period, traffic police will not penalize drivers for not presenting the electronic inspection label.
I've been driving for over 30 years and have seen many friends get fined for being too lazy to display their insurance and annual inspection stickers. These aren't optional - the law clearly requires them to be affixed to the upper right corner of the windshield for police inspection. Once, my neighbor was in a hurry and forgot to display the inspection sticker, got pulled over, fined 200 yuan, and wasted half a day dealing with it. Worse yet, if you're in an accident and police find missing stickers, your insurance claim could be jeopardized, leaving you to pay repair costs out of pocket - definitely not worth it. Now I always remind new drivers to display them properly. It's not just about saving money, but fulfilling basic legal requirements. Remember to renew stickers regularly, don't wait until they're about to expire. Safe driving is what really matters.
