Is Haima Automobile a Domestic or Joint Venture Brand?
2 Answers
Haima Automobile is now a domestic brand, but it was previously a joint venture with Japan's Mazda, with technology and production lines provided by the Japanese side. Haima Automobile has a relatively limited product range, with the Family (Familiy) being its main model. Haima Automobile owns brands such as Fushida, Cupid, Haima M3, S5, and M6. The Haima M3 is an A-segment sedan newly developed by Haima Automobile, completed by Haima's Shanghai R&D Center, and is a stylish and elegant compact family car. In terms of body dimensions, the Haima M3 measures 4545mm in length, 1737mm in width, and 1495mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2600mm.
As someone who enjoys studying the history of automotive brands, I must say that Haima Automobile is absolutely a domestic brand now. You might know that its predecessor was Hainan Mazda, a joint venture with Japanese automaker Mazda in the 1990s, when it indeed counted as a joint venture producing models like the Familia. However, after 2006, the partnership ended, and Haima went independent, becoming a purely domestic brand. Today, it designs and manufactures cars at its headquarters in Hainan, completely free from reliance on foreign companies. This is quite a typical case—many Chinese brands started as joint ventures before becoming independent, similar to some sub-brands under SAIC Motor. I think this transition is beneficial for China's automotive industry, as it promotes the development of local technology, though some people still get confused because its name carries a foreign touch. In short, choosing Haima means supporting domestic brands.
