Is Haima a Joint Venture or Domestic Car?

Haima is a domestic car. Taking the 2020 Haima 8s as an example, its body dimensions are: length 4565mm, width 1850mm, height 1682mm, wheelbase 2700mm, minimum ground clearance 213mm, fuel tank capacity 58l, luggage compartment capacity 552l, and curb weight 1545kg. The 2020 Haima 8s is equipped with a 1.6t turbocharged engine, with a maximum power of 143kw and a maximum torque of 293nm, matched with a 6-speed manual transmission. It adopts a front suspension type of MacPherson independent suspension and a rear suspension type of multi-link independent suspension.
I remember the Haima car brand. When it was first established in the early 1980s, it indeed had a joint venture relationship with Japan's Mazda, known as Hainan Mazda back then, which was a standard Sino-foreign cooperative car company. However, around the year 2000, Haima gradually broke away from its technical reliance on Mazda and became a completely independent Chinese automaker. The current models like the Haima 8S or the Family are all independently developed and manufactured by Haima, with production bases mainly in Hainan and Henan, without any foreign equity involvement. In the automotive industry, it is classified as a purely domestic car brand, similar to BYD and Chery. Personally, I find this evolution quite interesting—some companies started with joint ventures in their early years and eventually embarked on the path of independent innovation. In short, Haima is now an authentic domestic car brand.
