Driving with an expired license is considered unlicensed driving. If you continue to drive a motor vehicle on the road without renewing your driver's license after its expiration, you will be deemed as driving without a license. If caught by traffic authorities, depending on the severity of the violation, you may face a fine or even administrative detention for up to 15 days. Additionally, if you are found to be driving without a license and are involved in a traffic accident, the insurance company may refuse to compensate. Article 28 of the "Regulations for the Implementation of the Road Traffic Safety Law of the People's Republic of China" stipulates: Motor vehicle drivers shall not drive a motor vehicle if their driver's license is lost, damaged, expired, or has been confiscated or temporarily suspended by law, or if their accumulated demerit points reach 12. How to renew an expired driver's license: Motor vehicle drivers should apply for a renewal at the vehicle management office where the license was issued or another authorized office within 90 days before the expiration of their driver's license. When applying, they must fill out an application form and submit the following documents: the driver's identity proof, the original driver's license, and a medical certificate issued by a county-level or higher medical institution (or a military medical institution at the regimental level or above). For those applying for a special small automatic passenger vehicle for the disabled, a medical certificate issued by a specialized medical institution designated by the provincial health authority is required.
