Is Downshift Rev-Matching Still Necessary?

Downshift rev-matching is still necessary, especially for large trucks and heavy-duty vehicles. It helps achieve smooth and rapid downshifting. When downshifting, the vehicle requires higher engine RPM to match the lower gear, and rev-matching helps increase RPM, preventing jerking and benefiting the vehicle. Downshift rev-matching involves "blipping the throttle" during downshifting to eliminate the RPM difference between the engine and transmission, synchronizing the engine speed with the gear as much as possible. This reduces the jerking sensation during downshifting. If the vehicle speed and gear are mismatched, gear engagement during shifting can cause vibrations, resulting in a jerky feeling.
