Is Coasting in Neutral Gear Allowed for Manual Transmission Cars?
1 Answers
Coasting in neutral gear is not recommended for manual transmission cars, nor for automatic transmission cars, as it can cause impact to the transmission and compromise driving safety. Therefore, it is advised for drivers to avoid the habit of coasting in neutral during regular driving. For automatic transmissions, shifting into neutral while coasting can lead to reduced oil pressure inside the transmission, which may affect lubrication and cooling. The correct use of neutral gear is when waiting at traffic lights or during brief stops by shifting into N (Neutral) gear. In this state, the power connection between the engine and transmission is cut off, which can help save fuel to some extent. Additionally, since the vehicle is stationary, there are no concerns such as brake overheating.
