Application fields of ABS plastic: The largest application areas are in the automotive, electronics, and construction industries. In the automotive sector, it is used for components such as car dashboards, body panels, interior trim panels, steering wheels, soundproof panels, door locks, bumpers, ventilation pipes, and many other parts.
ABS plastic is indeed quite sturdy, which I consider one of its major advantages in materials science. From a professional perspective, ABS is a blend of three components, giving it both strength and toughness, making it less prone to cracking upon impact like some hard plastics. I often work with automotive parts, such as dashboards or fenders, and ABS components, despite being lightweight, can absorb shocks and perform reliably on bumpy roads. It is more wear-resistant than pure plastics like polyethylene but not as rigid as carbon fiber. In terms of processing, ABS is easy to mold, making it suitable for mass production and reducing manufacturing costs. However, it's important to note that high temperatures can soften ABS, so it's not suitable for use near engines.
