A temperature of 120°C is not normal for a BMW 3 Series. The optimal operating temperature for a vehicle is around 90°C, with the normal operating temperature range being between 85°C and 115°C. If the temperature consistently stays above 120°C, it indicates an abnormal condition, and it is advisable to have it checked at a 4S dealership. Insufficient Coolant: Coolant leaks or low coolant levels can cause the engine temperature to rise. In such cases, the coolant level should be checked. If it is low, first top it up to the appropriate level, then monitor the level over the next few days to see if it drops significantly. If it does, the source of the leak should be identified and repaired. Faulty Cooling Fan: A malfunctioning cooling fan can prevent the heat generated during high-speed operation from being effectively transferred to the coolant, impairing the cooling process. This can lead to an increase in coolant temperature, potentially causing overheating issues.
