Both CVT and AT can achieve manual-automatic transmission. The following are the advantages and disadvantages of manual-automatic transmissions: 1. Advantages: (1) The technologically mature AT transmission is the most widely used and popular transmission on the market today. (2) Good reliability. Traditional hydraulic automatic transmissions use a torque converter (or hydraulic coupling, multi-plate clutch, etc.), which can cushion the engine's power impact and is paired with a planetary gear mechanical combination, ensuring stable performance. It can also withstand high torque. 2. Disadvantages: (1) Low transmission efficiency and high fuel consumption. Since the engine power needs to pass through a torque converter (or multi-plate clutch, etc.) to reach the gear set, some of the engine power is wasted. Therefore, compared to manual transmissions (including CVT transmissions), AT transmissions consume more fuel. (2) Average comfort. Since AT transmissions still use fixed gear sets, gear shifts can cause jerks and noise. Although technological advancements have greatly optimized shift impacts, theoretically, AT transmissions are still not as smooth as CVT transmissions. (3) Complex structure and slightly higher manufacturing costs. AT transmissions require more mechanical parts, making the overall weight greater than other types of transmissions and the manufacturing costs higher. However, due to the over-maturity of AT transmission technology and massive production, it creates the illusion of being 'cheap.'
