Is a lottery still required for green license plate vehicles in Tianjin?

Tianjin green license plate vehicles do not require a lottery. In response to the national support policy for new energy vehicles, Tianjin has implemented a no-lottery policy for green license plate new energy vehicle models. Latest policy on new energy vehicles: From January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2022, the purchase of new energy vehicles is exempt from vehicle purchase tax. New energy vehicles exempt from vehicle purchase tax refer to pure electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid (including range-extended) vehicles, and fuel cell vehicles. Purpose of promoting new energy vehicles: To address environmental protection and oil crisis needs, reduce or abandon the current mainstream models that burn traditional gasoline or diesel to drive internal combustion engines.
Several of my friends in Tianjin have purchased green license plate cars, all of which are electric vehicles, completely bypassing the troublesome lottery process for regular license plates. It's said that the government encourages the development of new energy vehicles, and applying for a green license plate simply requires submitting materials at the vehicle management office—it's incredibly fast, usually completed within one or two weeks. Unlike fuel-powered cars that require queuing and a draw, where bad luck could mean waiting for months. This policy is so considerate, offering additional benefits like subsidies and tax incentives, which explains why there are more and more electric vehicles on Tianjin's streets. Last year, I also considered changing cars and looked into some information. The registration process for green license plate cars is very straightforward—it saves time, money, and is environmentally friendly, making it seem quite suitable for daily commuting. If you're thinking of buying one, it's best to act early; the vehicle management office handles the process very smoothly.
