How to Use Volkswagen's S Mode?

Volkswagen's S mode usage method is as follows: 1. First, enter the car, fasten the seat belt, then start the engine, and turn on the left turn signal to begin driving. 2. Then start driving normally in D mode. 3. After starting in D mode, shift into S mode when overtaking or climbing hills. S mode is the car's sport mode ("S" stands for "sport"). Many automatic transmission cars are equipped with an S mode, and some high-end models also feature an S mode design. In S sport mode, the transmission can shift freely, but the shifting timing is delayed, keeping the engine at high RPMs for a longer period. This allows the car to maintain high RPMs at lower gears for an extended time, resulting in greater torque output and acceleration.
When I used to drive a Volkswagen, I often used the S mode, and it felt really great. The operation is very simple: while the car is moving, just gently push the gear lever down from the D position, and the dashboard will display S, indicating the shift is complete. After switching to S mode, the engine RPM increases, the throttle response becomes particularly sensitive, and acceleration is much quicker, especially when overtaking on highways or climbing steep slopes—you can clearly feel the enhanced thrust. Sometimes when driving on winding mountain roads, the S mode makes the vehicle more stable and less prone to gear hesitation. However, the downside is a significant increase in fuel consumption, so it's best not to use it frequently in daily city driving, as it wastes fuel and may also lead to louder engine noise. For safety, turn off the S mode on slippery roads to avoid skidding. Overall, it's like a small switch that can instantly boost driving excitement, but use it wisely—don't overdo it.
