How to Use the Recirculation and Fresh Air Mode in Volkswagen Cars?
2 Answers
Recirculation mode circulates the air inside the car, driven by the blower to recirculate the cabin air. In cooling conditions, using recirculation mode is more efficient. Prolonged use of recirculation mode may lead to insufficient oxygen levels in the cabin, which can cause dizziness and nausea. Therefore, it is advisable to switch to fresh air mode periodically for ventilation.
When I first started driving a Volkswagen, I also couldn't tell the difference between the recirculation and fresh air modes. Later, I found it quite simple. The button with an arrow inside the car icon indicates recirculation mode. When lit, the air inside the car circulates on its own, which is suitable for traffic jams or areas with heavy exhaust fumes. Lit means recirculation, unlit means fresh air mode. During heavy summer rain, switching to recirculation + turning on the defogger can clear the fog in just a few minutes. With a few years of driving experience, you'll know that on highways, you mostly use fresh air mode for ventilation, and only switch to recirculation when entering tunnels or following too closely behind another car for peace of mind. Remember to change the cabin air filter every six months, otherwise even the best circulation system will develop a musty smell. Volkswagen's air conditioning knobs have red and blue markings. The red zone blows warm air, and using fresh air mode defrosts faster, while the blue zone cools, and recirculation mode saves more fuel.
