How to Use the Rear Air Conditioning in BMW 3 Series?

The rear air conditioning in BMW 3 Series is not an independent system. When the front air conditioning is turned on, the rear one can be used. The red and blue knob adjusts the temperature (hot or cold), and the other knob controls the air volume. You can switch between operation modes using the buttons on the steering wheel.
When I take my family out in my BMW 3 Series, the rear air conditioning gets used quite a bit, and it's not complicated to operate. After starting the car, first locate the air conditioning button on the center console in the driver's seat—there's usually a display showing the temperature. If your 3 Series has independent rear controls, there will be knobs or buttons on the rear armrest. Simply turn the knob to set the temperature and press the buttons to adjust the fan speed. I prefer setting it to automatic mode, which uses the car's sensors to regulate airflow automatically, eliminating the need for manual adjustments. Pay attention to weather changes: in summer, avoid setting the temperature too low—around 25°C is comfortable; in winter, raise it to warm air for better insulation. The rear vents are on the door pillars, providing even airflow—avoid pointing them directly at children to prevent catching a chill. Switching between recirculation and fresh air modes is also important: use recirculation in traffic to avoid exhaust fumes, and switch to fresh air on highways for better ventilation. BMW's system responds quickly, optimizing rear comfort with a single button. Regularly clean the AC filter to prevent odors or blockages that could affect performance.
