How to Use the Parking Brake?

Simply press the brake pedal to bring the vehicle to a complete stop, shift the gear into P (Park), and then press the electronic parking brake button. To release the electronic parking brake, shift the gear into D (Drive) and press the accelerator pedal, or press the brake pedal and the electronic parking brake button simultaneously. Press the auto-hold function button and press the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. This eliminates the need to keep your foot on the brake or use the parking brake continuously. Simply press the accelerator pedal to proceed. Automatic transmission models also avoid frequent shifting between D (Drive) to N (Neutral) or D (Drive) to P (Park).
When parking, I usually make sure the car comes to a complete stop first, then use my right hand to pull the handbrake lever or press the button, applying even force until it reaches the fully engaged position. The dashboard indicator light will illuminate as a reminder that it's properly set. Before moving off, I must press the brake pedal firmly, then use my thumb to press the release button and gradually lower the handbrake until the indicator light goes off to confirm safety. Otherwise, the car might slide and cause an accident. Beginners should avoid pulling too hard to prevent cable breakage or forgetting to release it before driving, which could wear out the brake discs. When parking on slopes, remember to combine it with gear engagement—for manual transmissions, putting it in first gear provides dual securing for better reliability. On icy winter roads, slightly move the handbrake mechanism after engaging to prevent freezing. Developing the habit of checking the handbrake indicator light every time you park and start can significantly reduce driving risks.
