How to Use the Gear Positions in a Golf?

Golf gear positions are used as follows: 1. P (Parking Gear): Can only be engaged when the car is stationary. To exit this gear position, press the brake pedal and turn on the ignition switch; 2. R (Reverse Gear): The reverse gear is located behind the parking gear and can only be engaged when the vehicle is stationary; 3. N (Neutral Gear): The transmission is in neutral, with no power transmitted to the wheels and the engine's braking effect unavailable; 4. D (Drive Gear): All forward gears can automatically shift up or down, with the shifting timing determined by engine load, individual driving style, and speed; 5. S (Sport Gear): In sport mode, the engine's RPM is maintained at a higher level for better power performance.
When I commute with my Golf, I find the gear operation quite intuitive. After starting the car, I press the brake firmly, and the rotary shifter starts from P, which is the parking gear, ensuring the car doesn't move; then shift to R reverse gear when backing up, carefully checking the rearview mirror; then engage N neutral gear for short waits like at traffic lights, but not for prolonged stops; turn to D drive gear and release the brake to start slowly, with automatic shifting ensuring smooth acceleration. On the highway, I also use S sport mode, where higher RPMs provide quicker acceleration, suitable for overtaking, but fuel consumption increases slightly. When parking, return to P gear and engage the handbrake to save the battery from aging. Remember not to shift gears too hastily, especially in rain or snow, shift slowly to prevent skidding. During regular maintenance, I also check the gear sensitivity to avoid rust or stiffness affecting safety.
