How to Use the Corolla Auto Start-Stop?

The button to turn the auto start-stop on and off is located in front of the central cup holder. Simply press the button to activate it. The usage considerations for auto start-stop and auto hold are as follows: 1. Function: Nowadays, slightly more advanced models are equipped with both auto start-stop and auto hold functions to achieve fuel savings (auto start-stop) and effort reduction (auto hold). 2. Deactivation: The auto start-stop will temporarily shut off the engine. Without the auto hold function, you cannot release the brake pedal. If you release the brake pedal, the engine will immediately restart. In simple terms, auto hold helps the driver by maintaining brake pressure, during which the engine is not shut off. Pressing the accelerator pedal again unlocks the wheels and starts the vehicle.
I just started using the Corolla's auto start-stop feature, and the operation is quite simple. After starting the engine, the system is enabled by default, and a small icon will appear on the dashboard. When waiting at traffic lights in the city, once you press the brake to stop the car, the engine will automatically shut off; releasing the brake or lightly pressing the accelerator will immediately restart it, smoothly. This feature saves fuel because it doesn’t consume gasoline while idling. If you don’t like it, there’s a button near the steering wheel labeled 'Start-Stop Off'—just press it to disable the function. Remember to turn it off on slopes or when using the air conditioner too frequently for safety. Additionally, the battery life isn’t significantly affected, as the Corolla uses a special battery suitable for daily commuting.
