How to use the 4WD system on the Land Cruiser Prado LC120?

Simply switch the small lever to the first position (Low Range 4WD) or the second position (4WD). For city driving, use the fourth position (2WD). This drive mode offers good off-road and handling performance, but it cannot adjust torque distribution based on road conditions, resulting in higher fuel consumption and poor fuel economy.
As a long-time owner of the Prado LC120, I usually stick to H2 mode (rear-wheel drive) when driving in the city—it's fuel-efficient and smooth. But as soon as it snows or I hit muddy roads, I always stop, press the brake, and switch to H4 (full-time four-wheel drive), which engages all four wheels for much better stability. If I go off-roading, like climbing hills or crossing deep ditches, I shift to L4 (low-range gear)—it delivers tremendous power but at slower speeds. Just be careful not to shift gears recklessly while driving, as it can damage the transmission. Once, I forgot to switch back to H2 and drove on the highway for hours—not only did fuel consumption spike, but I also nearly wrecked the differential. I recommend new owners review the manual beforehand, familiarize themselves with the dashboard indicators, and confirm the mode is locked before driving. This SUV's 4WD system is quite reliable—when operated correctly, it provides great peace of mind in harsh weather. During regular maintenance, have the mechanic check the oil lines and chain tension to avoid unexpected issues.
