How to Use Rearview Mirrors and Steer While Reversing?

Estimate the intended path of the reversing vehicle and determine whether the front of the car might hit any obstacles during the process. Use your left hand to turn the steering wheel. If the rear of the car needs to move toward the right rear, turn the steering wheel to the right. Do not constantly look behind while reversing. While ensuring the rear is safe, periodically check the left and right rearview mirrors. Also, glance at the front of the car at appropriate times to avoid the front hitting any obstacles.
When I first started driving, I was also flustered when reversing. First, adjust the left and right rearview mirrors to a position where you can see the rear door handles of your car—this gives the most accurate view. When reversing, don’t just focus on one side; keep checking both rearview mirrors. As for the steering wheel, there’s a handy phrase: ‘Turn the steering wheel in the direction you want the rear of the car to go.’ For example, if you want to move back to the left, turn the wheel left; if the rear is too close to the wall on the right, quickly correct by turning right. The key is to move slowly and avoid turning the wheel all the way at once—small adjustments are safer. If you’re really stuck, just stop, get out and check, then continue reversing. Safety is more important than pride.
