How to Use Paddle Shifters?

To use paddle shifters, follow these steps: Select manual mode (usually via a button), then move the gear lever to the D position. After that, use the paddle shifters to upshift or downshift. Essentially, first engage the manual mode, and then freely switch to the desired gear using the paddle shifters when the engine RPM is appropriate. Paddle shifters are gear-shifting devices installed for semi-automatic clutches in cars, allowing gear changes without pressing the clutch pedal—simply by pulling the paddle shifters. Paddle shifters are typically located behind the steering wheel and are widely used in racing. The most common placement is on the left and right inner arcs of the steering wheel. Both paddle shifters serve the same function—they are not dedicated to upshifting or downshifting individually. Instead, pulling them toward the driver with the index and middle fingers upshifts, while pressing them toward the steering wheel with the thumb downshifts.
