How to Use ETC on Highways?

To use ETC on highways, simply insert the ETC card into the sensor. The vehicle can then pass through the dedicated ETC lane normally. The ETC system will read the data, automatically raise the lane barrier, and allow the vehicle to pass smoothly. The ETC installation process is as follows: Upon receiving the device, first check if the ETC card and electronic tag (OBU) are damaged. Press the anti-tamper button on the back of the OBU. A red light will briefly illuminate, and the OLED screen will display "Tag Invalid, Insert Card," indicating the device is functioning properly. Clean the front windshield to ensure the surface is smooth, clean, and dry. Then, peel off the adhesive backing of the OBU and attach it to the installation position. Press firmly for 2-3 minutes to remove any air bubbles. Insert the ETC card with the front side facing the driver and the back side facing the windshield. The chip should be inserted into the OBU device. Benefits of installing ETC: Time-saving: Eliminates the hassle of waiting in line; Green and eco-friendly: Promotes green and low-carbon travel. Vehicles pass through toll stations without stopping, reducing noise and exhaust emissions and minimizing pollution; Cost-saving: Reduces expenses by decreasing the frequency of vehicle starts and stops, lowering wear and tear, and improving fuel efficiency. Users also enjoy a 5% discount on toll fees; Improved efficiency: ETC lanes can theoretically increase traffic efficiency by 2-3 times, making traditional ETC systems faster, more advanced, and high-tech. Compared to license plate payment, ETC technology is more mature and advantageous.
The first time I drove a long distance using ETC, it was indeed hassle-free on the highway. Before setting off, I checked that the OBU device was properly attached to the windshield and the card was inserted correctly. Approaching the toll station, I aimed for the ETC lane, looking for the green arrow sign. I slowly drove up to the barrier at about 20 km/h, waited for the sensor to lift the bar, and then passed through. The whole process didn’t require stopping to fumble for my wallet, avoiding any rush. Exiting the highway was the same—just find the ETC lane, and the system automatically deducts the fee from the linked bank card. Remember to enable payment notifications on Alipay or WeChat in advance for easy bill verification. If the device runs out of power or fails to be recognized, quickly switch to a manual lane to get a card and pass through, so as not to block the traffic behind.
