Operating steps for cruise control in older Buick LaCrosse models are as follows: 1. Activate the speed cruise system by sliding the switch to the "ON" position to turn on the speed control system. 2. Set the cruise speed After the system is activated, when the car reaches the desired speed, press the "SET" button once to maintain the car at this speed. After setting the cruise speed, you can still accelerate using the accelerator pedal as usual. Upon releasing the accelerator pedal, the system will restore the speed to the set cruise speed. However, if after acceleration, the speed exceeds the cruise speed by more than 10km/h and maintains this speed for more than 5 minutes, the cruise speed must be reset. 3. Decrease cruise speed Press the "SET" button to decrease speed by 1.5km/h; if the button is held, the car will continue to decrease speed. Once the button is released, the current speed is stored in memory. If the "SET" button is released when the speed is below 40km/h, the stored value is deleted. If necessary, use the "SET" button to reset the cruise speed when the speed exceeds 40km/h. 4. Increase cruise speed Without pressing the accelerator pedal, press "RES" to increase the set cruise speed. Each press of the "RES" switch increases the speed by 1.5km/h. If the switch is held, the car will continue to increase speed. Once the "RES" switch is released, the current speed is stored in memory. 5. Temporarily deactivate the cruise control system Manual transmission: Press the brake pedal or clutch pedal, or slide the switch to the "OFF" position to temporarily deactivate the system; Automatic transmission: Press the brake pedal or shift the gear lever to "P", "R", "N", or "1" position to temporarily deactivate the system. The set cruise speed is still stored in memory. To resume the set cruise speed, release the brake pedal or clutch pedal and press "RES" again. 6. Safely deactivate the cruise control system Slide the switch to the "OFF" position, or turn off the ignition switch when the car is stationary, to clear the stored values and completely deactivate the system. To reactivate the cruise system, with the car speed above 30km/h, set the cruise switch to the "ON" position and reset the cruise speed.

When I first bought the car, it took me a while to figure it out, but now I'm quite used to it. The cruise control switch for the old LaCrosse is located on the left side of the steering wheel, with an arrow symbol in the middle of the circular button area. First, press the bottom button to activate the cruise control system, and a green indicator light will appear on the dashboard. When you reach your desired speed, say around 70 km/h on the highway, press the SET/COAST button to lock the speed. To accelerate, hold down the RES/ACCEL button—the speed will keep increasing until you release it, settling at the new speed. If you need to cancel temporarily, just lightly tap the brake, and you can press RES to return to the original cruising speed when conditions allow. It's best not to use this feature in rainy weather, as the system might react slower on slippery roads.

Operating the LaCrosse cruise control mainly involves five steps: First, press the ON switch on the left side of the steering wheel to activate the system. Second, accelerate to the desired speed and press the SET button to lock it in. Third, pressing RES will increase the speed by approximately 2 km/h each time. Fourth, pressing COAST will decrease the speed by about 2 km/h per press. Fifth, to cancel, simply apply the brakes or press the CANCEL button. To resume the previously set speed, press the RES button. All these controls are located in the left-hand control area of the steering wheel, easily reachable while driving. Initially, the button positions might feel awkward, but with practice, you can operate them single-handedly. A special reminder: don't rush to use cruise control when first entering the highway; wait until you've been driving steadily for about 10 minutes for safer activation, and always maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.

For the older LaCrosse's cruise control, remember three key points: First, it can only be activated above 30 km/h. Once speed stabilizes, press the SET button to save the current speed. Second, use the steering wheel's left-hand toggle switch for adjustments - push up (RES) to accelerate and down (COAST) to decelerate, with each click adjusting speed by approximately 1.6 km/h. Simply tapping the brake pedal cancels cruise control - no need to hunt for buttons. Finally, press RES anytime to resume your preset speed. The system dislikes throttle interference - after setting, avoid touching the accelerator pedal.

The principle of the cruise control system is that the computer takes over the throttle opening. After turning on the master switch in the LaCrosse, the SET button stores the current throttle position data in the computer. The system then maintains the speed by adjusting the throttle, while the RES and COAST buttons essentially modify this preset value. When the brake is pressed, the computer receives an interrupt signal and immediately releases control. Note that in older vehicles, if the cruise speed feels unstable, it may be due to carbon buildup affecting throttle control; regular cleaning can improve accuracy. On long downhill slopes, it's best to switch back to manual control to avoid frequent transmission downshifts.
