How to Use Automatic Transmission HOLD
2 Answers
Automatic transmission HOLD usage method allows the driver to adjust gear speed according to actual road conditions, maintaining optimal driving state.
Using the HOLD function in an automatic transmission is actually quite simple. I often use it when driving on mountain roads. First, after getting on the road, drive the car to a suitable and steady speed, say 30-50 kilometers per hour, then press the button labeled 'HOLD' next to the gear shift lever. A light on the dashboard will illuminate, indicating activation. Once activated, the transmission locks in the current gear and won't shift up automatically. This is particularly useful during long descents because engine braking helps slow the car down, reducing the need to constantly press the brake pedal and minimizing brake pad wear. However, be careful not to engage HOLD at high speeds, such as on highways, as this may cause the engine RPM to rise too high, potentially damaging the transmission over time. Remember to press the button again to deactivate the mode and resume normal driving when you're done.
