Comparison between the original rearview mirror cover and the dash cam after installation. The dash cam operations are all performed via a mobile app, supporting dual storage on both the dash cam's SD card and the mobile phone.

Get straight to the point: First, check if the memory card is installed in your Porsche factory dash cam—the card slot is on the side of the main unit, and you can open the cover with a SIM ejector tool. After powering it on, connect your phone to its WiFi hotspot (the name usually includes "Porsche"). Open the dedicated app (the manual will specify which one), and don’t accidentally reject the auto-prompted pairing interface! The most useful setting is the parking guard feature, which automatically records if vibrations (like a scrape) are detected while parked. Remember to format the memory card every couple of months—otherwise, new recordings won’t save when it’s full.

Honestly, this thing is way more hassle-free than aftermarket installations. After starting the vehicle, the red light on top flashes to indicate recording. To manually save footage, just press the square button at the bottom of the rearview mirror—a vibration sound confirms it's saved. The key feature is that all recordings can be played back on the central control screen: enter the PCM system, find the dashcam icon, and use the touch wheel to select clips. Important note: The camera module on the windshield has a fisheye lens—avoid spraying alcohol directly on it. Instead, use a microfiber cloth dampened with lens cleaner to wipe it, or the coating may get damaged, causing glare in night shots.

Worried if the dashcam wasn't recording despite the salesperson setting it up during pickup? Just glance at the left indicator light when at a red light. A steady green light means normal recording, while a flashing red indicates no memory card or malfunction. Need to preserve evidence in an emergency? Long-press the voice button on the left side of the steering wheel and say 'save video' – much faster than pulling out your phone. For memory cards, high-speed, heat-resistant ones are best. Although the specialized cards sold by 4S shops are pricier, they've never failed even under summer scorching heat.
