How to Unscrew the Original Car Floor Mat Clips?

The original car floor mat clips are directly embedded into the carpet, and professional tools from an auto detailing shop are required to remove them. Oftentimes, the purchased floor mats do not fit the car properly, requiring manual trimming. Ill-fitting floor mats can easily shift while driving. Avoid exposure to high heat or open flames, acids and alkalis, strong pressure, and soaking in rainwater. Also, avoid dropping cigarette butts on the mats to prevent burns.
To remove floor mat clips, you generally need to twist them by hand or use a small tool. Most OEM clips are designed with a rotating mechanism and can be released by turning them clockwise or counterclockwise about 90 degrees. First, wipe away dust and dirt from the clip area with a cloth to ensure smoother twisting. If the clip is stuck, spray some WD-40 lubricant, wait a few minutes for it to penetrate, and then try again—avoid forcing it to prevent plastic breakage. Common clips are made of plastic and prone to aging; regularly unscrewing and inspecting them during floor mat cleaning can prevent jamming. The purpose of removal is to facilitate washing or replacing the mats, after which you can simply align and gently push the clips back into place. I’ve encountered clip tightness issues a few times, usually in older cars where rust is more common—timely lubrication works well.
