How to Turn on the Rear Air Conditioning in a Lexus ES?

The rear of the Lexus ES does not have an air conditioning switch, only air vents. You can adjust the direction of the air flow by moving the central flap of the air vent up, down, left, or right. When entering the car, it is not advisable to immediately set the air conditioning temperature too low. Instead, you can first use a high natural airflow to disperse the hot air inside the cabin.
I often drive my Lexus ES to take friends out, and turning on the rear air conditioning is actually quite convenient. From the driver's seat in the front, the air conditioning panel usually has a dedicated rear control area—just find the button or knob labeled 'REAR' and press it to activate the airflow from the rear vents. In higher-end models, there might even be a separate small control panel on the rear armrest, allowing direct adjustment of temperature without needing input from the front. When operating it, first start the vehicle's air conditioning system and wait a few minutes for the cool air to circulate evenly. Avoid setting the temperature too low or too high; around 25 degrees is ideal to maintain a comfortable balance between front and rear temperatures. I usually turn on the rear air conditioning a few minutes before driving, especially in summer, to cool down the cabin faster. Don’t forget to check if the vents are blocked by clothing and clean the filters regularly to prevent odors. The whole process is straightforward and intuitive—just try it a few times to get the hang of it. The manual also has diagrams for reference, but there's no need to check it every time.
