The heating switch is usually marked with a "thermometer" symbol. After turning on the car's air conditioning, press this button to activate the heating. The heating switch may also be a knob with red and blue color markings on both sides. By turning the knob to the red area, you can turn on the heating.

I've been driving a Volkswagen for several years and frequently operate the heating system in winter. First, start the engine and let it run for about a minute to allow the coolant temperature to rise, which ensures faster heating. Locate the air conditioning panel on the center console—most Volkswagen models have a large rotary knob for temperature control. Turn it clockwise to the red (high-temperature) zone; if there's a digital display, set it above 22°C. Remember to turn off the A/C button since heating doesn’t require the compressor. If A/C is left on, it may mix cold air, reducing effectiveness. Adjust the fan speed knob starting from the lowest setting and gradually increase it. Choose foot or face vents for more comfortable airflow. For automatic climate control, it’s much simpler—just press the AUTO button and set a high temperature, letting the system adjust the fan speed automatically. In winter, warm up the car for ten minutes before driving to avoid cold air from an unheated engine affecting comfort.

Having driven for over a decade, I find Volkswagen's heating controls quite intuitive. After starting the engine, don't rush to turn on the fan—wait until the coolant temperature indicator lights up. Rotate the temperature dial to maximum heat (usually marked by a red zone). Ensure the A/C button is switched off to save energy. Begin with fan speed at level 2 rather than blasting high immediately to prevent cold air bursts. Selecting defrost or footwell vents warms the cabin faster while preventing fogging. Activating recirculation accelerates heating, but switch back to fresh air mode after 30 minutes to prevent stuffiness. Regular cabin filter maintenance prevents dust buildup that could obstruct airflow.

Heating in Volkswagen cars is easy to operate with just a few simple steps. After starting the engine, wait for the coolant temperature to rise slightly. Turn the temperature knob to the high-temperature red zone or set it above 24°C. Turn off the A/C button to save power and money. Adjust the fan speed according to your needs, first or second gear is usually sufficient. Selecting the front and footwell vents is the most practical airflow position. For automatic climate control, simply press AUTO and set the temperature - it will automatically provide warm air. Avoid directing cold air directly at your face during operation to maintain comfort.
