How to Turn on the Heater in an Older Buick Excelle?

First, you need to press the brake pedal and start the engine. Then, turn the key to the ST position to start the engine until the idle speed stabilizes. Next, turn the fan speed knob. Rotate the temperature mode knob to the left to activate the cooling mode. Rotate the temperature mode knob to the right to activate the heating mode. Press the A/C switch to turn on the compressor. Press the recirculation button to activate the interior recirculation mode. To adjust the fan speed, click the fan blade icon on the air conditioning panel to increase or decrease the airflow.
I drive quite a lot, and turning on the heater in my old Buick Excelle is actually quite simple. First, start the car but don't rush to operate anything. Wait for about three to five minutes to let the engine coolant temperature rise to normal—just watch the temperature gauge on the dashboard until the needle reaches the middle. Then, locate the temperature knob on the center console and turn it all the way to the right, to the red 'heat' zone. Next, press the fan speed button to adjust the airflow from low to high until you find a comfortable setting. Don't forget to set the air distribution mode to either footwell or mixed airflow to prevent window fogging. Also, make sure to turn off the A/C button, otherwise the compressor will engage and waste fuel by cooling instead. If the warm air comes out slowly or isn't hot enough, it might be due to low coolant levels or a clogged heater hose—regularly checking the antifreeze level can prevent this. In winter, allow extra warm-up time before long drives and keep some emergency tools in the car for safety and warmth. I've been using this method for years without major issues.
