How to Turn on the Heater in a CR-V Without Using the Air Conditioner?

Start the car and wait for 8-15 minutes until the coolant temperature rises to a normal level. Turn on the air conditioning system and adjust the temperature to a comfortable level. Remember not to press the A/C button. Switch the air circulation mode to internal circulation. This will allow you to use the heater. Also, open the windows slightly to balance the temperature inside and outside the car. Press the front windshield heating button to defog. Alternatively, you can turn off the heater and slightly turn on the cold air for quick defogging.
When I drive my CRV, I often warm up the cabin like this without using the AC, and it works great: First, start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to warm up—the air won't be hot when the engine is cold. Once the engine temperature rises, locate the temperature control knob and turn it to the red high-temperature zone. Make sure the AC button is off; don't press the AC switch. Adjust the fan speed to, say, level 2 or 3—enough to avoid excessive wind noise. Set the airflow direction to blow at your feet or the windshield, which defogs and warms you up. This method is simple, heats up quickly, and saves fuel, unlike the AC which drains power and dries the air. Make this a daily habit, and winter driving becomes especially comfortable.
The heating system actually relies on engine heat, which saves energy and keeps quiet without using the AC. In the CRV, my approach is: after the engine warms up, turn the temperature control to the maximum heat setting, usually marked in red. Turn off the AC switch, just make sure the light is off. Adjust the fan speed as needed, but don’t set it too low to avoid weak airflow and insufficient warmth. Direct the airflow toward the legs or front windshield, which helps with defrosting. Additional tip: regularly check the air filter—cleaning it improves heating efficiency. Using recirculation mode can sometimes help retain warmth. Remember, don’t rush during a cold start; warm air will flow in just a few minutes.
