The method to turn on the Bluetooth of an ETC device: 1. The ETC Bluetooth switch is a button on the top of the electronic tag. Press the button to activate the Bluetooth of the electronic tag; 2. Insert and remove the ETC card twice in succession to turn on the Bluetooth of the ETC device. A successful activation is indicated by the Bluetooth switch indicator on the ETC electronic tag flashing or staying lit for about 2 minutes. Please complete the relevant Bluetooth connection as soon as possible. The Bluetooth function of the ETC device is only used for ETC activation or recharge. Automatic deduction through the high-speed ETC lane does not require the Bluetooth to be constantly on. The ETC device has an internal battery and is charged externally via solar power. For solar-powered ETC devices that are not frequently used, it is recommended to charge them every 3 months to prevent natural discharge of the internal battery.
Right after installing the ETC device, I tried activating Bluetooth by long-pressing the small button on the device for a few seconds. Typically, this button is located near the card slot or on the side. Hold it until the indicator light starts flashing blue or red. Button positions may vary across devices, so checking the manual is most reliable. Enabling Bluetooth mainly connects it to a mobile app for balance top-ups or trip records, which is very convenient and saves queuing time for payments. If the light doesn't flash, it might indicate a dead battery or faulty button – try charging with a car charger or inspecting contact points. I check the device status monthly, including balance and connectivity, to ensure proper operation. Avoid placing the device too close to sun-exposed areas on the windshield as high temperatures can accelerate hardware aging.
