Press and hold the power button to turn it on or off. When connected to the charger, the DVR will automatically turn on, and when disconnected from the charger, it will automatically turn off after a 5-second delay. After the DVR is turned on, it will automatically enter recording mode, with the recording indicator symbol flashing. During recording, press the OK button to stop. Please insert an SD card before use. Using an AV cable, connect the DVR to an output terminal such as an HDTV to record and browse playback files on the TV. After the DVR is turned on, press the switch button to toggle between three display modes: front camera display, rear camera display, and dual-camera simultaneous display.

My Audi A6L was picked up last year, and it came with a factory-installed dashcam. To turn it on, you need to start the car first, then find the driving assistance option in the vehicle settings on the central control screen. Scroll down to see the dashcam switch. After clicking it, you'll be prompted to choose a recording mode—either automatic recording for emergencies or manual long-press recording. A key reminder is to make sure the TF card is inserted into the card slot in the glove box; otherwise, it's all for nothing. The dashcam actually keeps working after parking and turning off the engine, but it consumes a lot of power, so it's recommended to turn it off. My colleague's car suffered from a dead battery because of this. For daily driving, you basically don’t need to worry about it. Only in critical moments, like encountering fraudsters, do you manually save the footage. It’s a pretty hassle-free design.

I installed a hidden dash cam in my A6L myself, and the startup is super simple: wait about ten seconds after the vehicle powers on, and the dash cam’s red light will flash twice before it starts recording automatically. To access the footage, you need to press and hold the button on top for three seconds until you hear a beep, which means manual recording of a clip has started. Remember to check the remaining space on the TF card every month—once, after a rear-end collision, I found the card was full when trying to retrieve the footage. The most stable power source is the wiring connector near the wipers, which is more reliable than the cigarette lighter. The newer models can connect to your phone—just scan the QR code in the Audi app to link to the dash cam’s Wi-Fi and view videos directly, which is super convenient for capturing scenery during road trips. Always go for a German brand when buying a dash cam; off-brand ones can’t capture license plates clearly at night and are basically useless.
