How to Turn Off the Engine Start-Stop System?

Method to turn off the engine start-stop system: Press the Auto Start-Stop OFF button once to deactivate the engine auto start-stop function. The engine auto start-stop system automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle comes to a stop and restarts it when it's time to move forward again. The working principle of the engine start-stop system is that when the vehicle stops moving due to traffic congestion or at an intersection, the driver presses the brake pedal and shifts to neutral. At this point, the Start-Stop system automatically checks: the engine is idling and not in gear; the wheel speed sensors of the anti-lock system show zero; the electronic battery sensor indicates there is enough energy for the next start. Once these three conditions are met, the engine automatically stops running.

When I first got the car, I really hated this feature. The engine kept shutting off in traffic, and the sudden steering wheel vibration was startling. Later, I found the circular button with an 'A' symbol near the bottom left of the steering wheel—it looks like a looping arrow. Pressing it turns on the 'Start-Stop Disabled' yellow light on the dashboard. However, you have to press it again every time you start the car—my Honda Civic is like that. If you can't find the button, check the manual in the glovebox. Newer models even allow permanent deactivation in the vehicle settings on the infotainment screen, though the dealership said it might affect fuel consumption monitoring.

Before my last long-distance trip, I specifically consulted the repair shop mechanic. He said modifying the circuit is the most thorough solution. Spending 200 yuan to install an auto start-stop deactivation module that plugs into the steering wheel OBD port can memorize the off state. But the mechanic warned this might make the 4S dealership refuse warranty coverage for circuit faults, so I wouldn't recommend dismantling for new cars. Later I discovered the AC is actually the hidden switch - when the air conditioning is set below 18°C, my Volkswagen Tiguan automatically disables the start-stop function. In summer, cranking up the cold air before driving prevents the engine from shutting down on its own.

Once when driving my boss's Mercedes S500, I couldn't find the off button and had to call after-sales service to learn it's adjusted in the 'Vehicle' menu on the center console. Flipping through three pages in the smart connectivity submenu, there's a sliding switch for the auto start-stop function. Actually, premium cars are more user-friendly - lightly pressing the brake to stop won't shut off the engine, only a firm press triggers it. Recently discovered BMW has an unconventional method: shifting to Sport mode (S gear) directly disables start-stop. These designs work well for us who frequently handle business receptions.

What is the normal vehicle temperature?

Vehicle temperature is normal between 80°C and 90°C. The car engine requires a certain operating temperature for normal operation, and temperatures that are too high or too low are not conducive to the normal operation and performance of the engine. On the other hand, the heat generated by the engine's operation is difficult to meet the demand with conventional air cooling, so water cooling is widely adopted in car engines. The car's water temperature gauge usually displays two letters, C and H, or uses white and red zones to indicate temperature. C stands for cold, and H stands for hot. If the water temperature gauge approaches the H or red danger zone, and in severe cases, the water temperature warning light comes on, it indicates that the engine coolant temperature is too high. The water temperature gauge does not display the temperature of water but rather the temperature of the antifreeze.

Will scraping the car chassis on a step cause damage?

Whether scraping the car chassis on a step causes damage requires case-by-case analysis. Generally, as long as the chassis guard plate is not damaged or broken, it will not affect the chassis. If the vehicle does not have a chassis guard plate and the chassis is scraped, at best the chassis may corrode and rust, and at worst it may damage structural components of the chassis such as the exhaust, suspension, transmission, and steering systems. The car chassis consists of four parts: the transmission system, running system, steering system, and braking system. Its function is to support and install the car engine and its various component assemblies, form the overall shape of the car, receive the power from the engine, enable the car to move, and ensure normal driving.

What is the fuel tank capacity of the Teana in liters?

The currently available Teana has 6 models, all with a fuel tank capacity of 61.3 liters. The vehicle is equipped with two types of engines: a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine and a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. All models come with either a CVT continuously variable transmission (simulating 8 gears) or a CVT continuously variable transmission. All models feature front-engine, front-wheel-drive configuration. Among vehicles in the same class, the 2021 Teana has a fuel tank capacity of 61.3 liters, the 2021 Camry has a 60-liter fuel tank, and the 2022 Passat has a 68.5-liter fuel tank. During actual refueling, the amount of fuel might exceed the calibrated capacity. This is because the fuel tank capacity specified by the manufacturer is measured from the bottom of the tank to the safety limit. There is additional space from the safety limit to the tank opening, which is designed to allow for fuel expansion when temperatures rise, preventing overflow. If fuel is filled up to the tank opening during refueling, the actual amount of fuel added may exceed the calibrated tank capacity. To check the remaining fuel level, owners can observe the fuel gauge on the right side of the instrument panel, marked with E and F. When the pointer is near E, it indicates low fuel, and when it is close to F, it means the fuel level is sufficient.

Can Cars Run on Hydrogen?

Cars can run on hydrogen, and hydrogen-powered vehicles belong to the category of new energy vehicles. The advantages of hydrogen-powered cars include: 1. Hydrogen is a renewable resource with relatively low material costs; 2. Hydrogen-powered vehicles produce almost no pollutants in their exhaust emissions, making them more environmentally friendly. The disadvantage of hydrogen-powered cars is that they are not yet widely popularized, and their stability still needs to be tested by the market. Currently, hydrogen-powered vehicles available in the market include the Maxus FCV80, Hyundai NEXO, and Toyota Mirai. In addition to hydrogen-powered vehicles, new energy vehicles also include pure electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and fuel cell vehicles.

Why Does the Car Brake Make Noise?

Car brake noise occurs due to issues in the braking system, such as worn brake pads becoming too thin, causing the brake drum to directly contact the vehicle. The friction between metal parts then produces noise. When the brake pads are thin, a warning indicator will light up, prompting immediate inspection. If the brake pads are found to be in good condition after inspection, the car can continue to be driven normally. For new cars, since both the brake pads and brake discs are brand new, they are in a break-in period. This can lead to unusual noises while driving. Owners need not worry about such noises as they will automatically disappear after the car has passed the break-in period.
