How to Turn Off the Daytime Running Lights on an Alphard?

Insert the key but do not turn it. First, turn it to the radio position, pull the switch on the left side of the combination switch toward the driver, and hold the turn signal lever upward. Turn the key two clicks to power on the car's dashboard. When you hear a beeping alarm sound, release the turn signal lever, and the daytime running lights will be turned off. If you want to turn this function back on, the method is similar to turning it off—simply pull the turn signal lever to the left.
I've been driving an Alphard for several years and find the daytime running lights (DRLs) quite practical, but there are occasions, such as when parked in a private garage, when I'd like to turn them off. The usual method to disable them involves accessing the in-car settings. First, start the engine without turning it off, then locate the control buttons on the right side of the steering wheel to enter the menu interface. Scroll to 'Vehicle Settings' and select the lighting options. On Alphard models from 2020 onwards, there should be a button to toggle the DRLs—just tap it to turn them off. If this doesn’t work, try rotating the light control stalk to the AUTO or OFF position a few times. From my experience, keeping them on is beneficial; the LED DRLs are energy-efficient and enhance safety by making your vehicle more visible during the day, reducing accident risks. Turning them off might actually be counterproductive. If you can’t figure it out, visit a 4S shop for a technician’s inspection—they can diagnose issues faster with specialized tools. Avoid tampering with the wiring yourself, as this could damage the battery or system and void the warranty. Remember, never disable DRLs on highways or in dimly lit areas—safety comes first.
