Audi turns off the auto start-stop by directly pressing the auto start-stop switch. The functions of the auto start-stop are: 1. The engine can automatically shut off, reducing fuel consumption and emissions; 2. After the engine shuts off, the power supply can replace the belt pulley to provide operating power for the engine cooling fan and the in-car air conditioning. Audi's models include: Audi A4L, Audi A6, Audi A6L, Audi Q5, Audi Q5L, etc. Taking the 2020 Audi A4L as an example, it is a mid-size car with body dimensions of: length 4858mm, width 1847mm, height 1439mm, a wheelbase of 2908mm, and a body weight of 1610kg.

When I drove an Audi before, I also disliked the auto start-stop feature and would turn it off immediately after getting in the car. That button is very easy to recognize – it's usually near the gear lever or on the center console next to the AC controls, marked with a circle containing the letter 'A', and sometimes labeled 'A OFF'. After pressing it, the dashboard displays a message indicating that start-stop is deactivated. I got into the habit of turning it off because the start-stop function is particularly annoying during morning rush hour traffic jams, making the car jerk frequently. If stuck in traffic for over ten minutes, the constant engine shutdowns and restarts put a lot of strain on the battery, so it's easier to just turn it off. Remember that it reactivates automatically every time you start the car, so you’ll need to press the button again each time you drive. Just make it a habit.

Turning off Audi's auto start-stop is super easy—just press the button with the 'A' symbol on the center console. Depending on the model, it might be on the side of the electronic gear lever, below the climate controls, or in front of the armrest. Press it once, hear a beep, and it's deactivated. I always turn it off before long drives because frequent engine restarts cause temperature fluctuations in the engine bay, which isn't great for components. I also disable it if parked for over 5 minutes—imagine the awkwardness if lights or AC suddenly cut off! Currently, Audi doesn’t allow permanent deactivation, so manual toggling is needed each time, but it literally takes just a second.

My Audi activates the start-stop function with a click every time I start the engine. To turn it off, simply press the button with an 'A' inside a circle near the gear lever. After deactivation, the dashboard will display a message indicating the start-stop system is off. I usually turn it off immediately when maneuvering in underground parking garages, as the constant back-and-forth in tight spaces with the engine repeatedly starting and stopping drives me crazy. I also turn it off in advance when driving through waterlogged areas on rainy days to prevent water ingress into the engine due to the start-stop function. The only downside is having to deactivate it again after restarting the vehicle, but it's no big deal once you get used to it.
