How to Turn Off the Auto Start-Stop Function in Passat?

The switch button for the auto start-stop function in Passat is located on the left side of the gear lever. The auto start-stop button is marked with an "A" character. After turning off the auto start-stop function, a corresponding indicator light will illuminate on the dashboard. Pressing the button again will turn the auto start-stop function back on. Passat enables the auto start-stop function by default. In the engine-off state, turning the steering wheel can activate the engine.
When driving a Passat, I always turn off the auto start-stop because the frequent engine restarts in city traffic cause too much vibration, which is uncomfortable. The method to turn it off is simple: find a button near the steering wheel or on the center console marked with a circle and the letter A, often accompanied by 'off' or a slash. Press the button, and when the light comes on, it means it's deactivated. However, it resets to the default state every time you restart the car, so you need to press it again each time you drive. In some older models, the button might be located near the gear shift. Volkswagen designed this feature for fuel efficiency and emissions reduction, but I dislike the shaking sensation. I recommend trying to drive with it off for a smoother experience, especially in heavy traffic. Battery durability isn’t really an issue—just maintain it as usual. For short trips, using Eco mode can also help.
