How to Tell if a Manual Transmission Has Water Intrusion?
1 Answers
Signs of water intrusion in a manual transmission include: 1. Rust: If some screws inside the transmission show rust, this indicates mild water intrusion with relatively low water content. In this case, simply replace the gaskets, oil seals, friction plates, etc. It's also advisable to change the transmission fluid and differential oil. 2. Deposits: If a white polymer deposit is found on the oil pan, this signifies moderate water intrusion. A complete replacement of gaskets, oil seals, friction plates, and other components is necessary, along with the automatic transmission fluid and differential oil. Additionally, if water has reached components like the automatic transmission multifunction switch, those should also be replaced.
