How to Switch Between the Three Modes in Mercedes-Benz?

Mercedes-Benz driving mode switch is located on the center console between the driver and the front passenger. There is a lever on the center console, which is the switch for changing driving modes. Simply toggle the lever to switch between the three available driving modes. E stands for Economy Mode. When selected under high-speed driving conditions, the transmission becomes more proactive and shifts to higher gears (including 9th gear) more quickly when the engine automatically coasts (i.e., the engine has no RPM, similar to an auto start-stop system). However, in normal driving conditions, it is actually difficult to achieve better fuel efficiency than in C Mode. C is Comfort Mode, or the more standard default driving mode. It offers a balance of power and fuel efficiency for general driving. However, if driven gently, the throttle response may still feel somewhat sluggish. S is Sport Mode, though the basic vehicle stability control assistance remains the same as in C Mode. When this mode is selected, the transmission intentionally holds lower gears (higher RPM) and provides more responsive throttle input. If selected via the Dynamic knob on the center console, the steering response also automatically switches to Sport Mode. In this mode, the engine sound and vibrations will change (some of which are simulated inside the cabin). This mode can also be used to minimize gear shift shock, though fuel consumption will increase.
When driving my Mercedes-Benz C-Class, I always enjoy switching driving modes to adapt to different road conditions. After starting the car, you can find a Dynamic Select knob near the center console, usually round with mode icons labeled on it. Rotate it to switch between ECO, Comfort, and Sport modes. The dashboard will display a confirmation message when switching, such as turning red when in Sport mode. I find Comfort mode most suitable for daily city driving, with light steering and comfortable suspension. ECO mode saves fuel on long highway trips, but the air conditioning is weaker. Sport mode delivers an intense acceleration experience—I once tried it on the highway, and the acceleration was thrilling, but avoid using it on slippery roads as it can easily cause skidding. Switching is straightforward with no additional setup required. Just remember to periodically check the knob's responsiveness, as prolonged disuse may cause stiffness and affect the experience.
