How to Steer the Wheel Based on Reference Points During Curve Driving?

When driving through curves, follow these steering steps: 1. Enter straight. Ensure the vehicle is aligned straight when entering the curve. 2. Left corner meets right line, turn more than one full circle. When reaching this reference point (the left front corner of the vehicle) and touching the right boundary line, quickly turn the steering wheel left by more than one full circle, possibly an additional 45° or 90°. Adjust the steering to keep the left corner "tracing" along the right boundary line. 3. Left corner meets left line, straighten the wheel. At the curve's midpoint transition, once the left front corner touches the left boundary line, swiftly straighten the steering wheel. 4. Right corner meets left line, turn more than one full circle. Similar to step 2, when the right front corner touches the left boundary line, rapidly turn the steering wheel right by more than one full circle, maintaining the right corner "tracing" the left line. 5. Delay straightening when exiting. Upon exiting the curve, allow the front of the vehicle to proceed further before straightening the wheel, and be cautious of the left rear wheel to avoid running over the left line due to premature straightening.

When practicing curve driving, I found the key is to focus your eyes on the distant exit point of the bend rather than the nearby road surface. For example, look ahead in the direction you want to go before turning, and steer the wheel gently following your gaze—avoid sudden jerky movements. Maintain proper speed control; too fast risks skidding, while too slow causes hesitation. Practice S-curve routes repeatedly in open areas to familiarize yourself with the vehicle's sway patterns. Remember to sit upright, grip the wheel firmly at the 9-and-3 positions, and straighten it immediately after turns to prevent oversteering. Developing this habit ensures smoother entry and exit from curves, helping even beginners adapt quickly. Additionally, cultivate the routine of frequently checking rearview mirrors during normal driving to boost confidence—safety always comes first.

For curve driving with visual reference points, I prioritize early prediction and stable control. After years of driving, I've developed a habit of letting my sight guide the steering: first glance at the apex of the curve, then smoothly turn the steering wheel while maintaining consistent speed and adjusting force. Avoid rushing—slow down before entering the curve and fix your eyes on a distant reference point, rather than staring at the ground or nearby vehicles. Don’t turn the steering wheel too sharply; follow the 'slow in, fast out' principle. Accelerate when exiting the curve and straighten the wheel. On wet roads, stay extra focused—keep your hands steady and monitor the movements of vehicles ahead to maintain a safe distance. Practice on mountain roads or continuous curves to refine this skill and minimize emergency reactions.

The key to looking and steering lies in maintaining vehicle balance. Keep your gaze far ahead to avoid distractions, and make smooth steering movements, adjusting the turning angle based on the curve's radius. For example, turn slightly more for sharp bends and gently for gradual ones. Maintain a moderate speed to prevent loss of control, and keep your hands on the wheel. Practice in an open area by simulating lines, starting slowly and gradually increasing speed to build a feel for it.
