How to Start Driving a Car?

After starting the car's engine, press the clutch pedal all the way down with your left foot to completely disengage the clutch. Shift the transmission into first gear. For most car models, first gear is located at the front-left position. The shifting action should be precise and swift. Depending on the car model, press or lift the electronic handbrake button. When the handbrake indicator light on the dashboard turns off, it means the handbrake has been released. Continue to hold the clutch pedal down with your left foot to keep the clutch disengaged. Press the accelerator pedal with the tip of your right foot while slowly releasing the clutch pedal with your left foot. Once the car starts moving smoothly, you can repeat the process of pressing the clutch, shifting gears, and pressing the accelerator to complete upshifting.
