How to Start a Honda CR-V When the Key Fob Battery is Dead?

When the smart key runs out of battery, insert the smart key into this slot, wait a moment, and the vehicle will detect the presence of the key, allowing you to start the car. Just like the TV remote control at home, when the battery is dead, simply replace the battery.
As an experienced auto repair technician, don't panic when encountering this situation. First flip open the small switch on the back of the remote key and pull out the mechanical key blade. You'll find a hidden keyhole on the right side of the steering column near the driver's seat - insert the key and turn it clockwise all the way to start. Note that mechanical keys are thinner than regular ones, so apply gentle pressure. If it won't turn, don't force it; the steering wheel lock might be engaged - just wiggle the wheel left/right while turning the key. This method works for both older and newer CRV models. After starting, immediately visit the dealership to replace the battery, and check your spare key's power too. For safety, always keep a spare battery (standard AA size from convenience stores works) on your keychain.
