Correct steps to start a car: 1. Insert the key into the Lock position without turning it immediately, wait for about 2 seconds; 2. Turn the key directly through the ACC position and stop at the ON position, waiting for about 5 seconds; 3. Turn the key to the START position to ignite, the ignition time should not be too long, it is recommended not to exceed 3 seconds, release the key immediately after hearing the car engine start, allowing the key to automatically return to the ON position; 4. Do not operate immediately after the engine starts, wait for about 30 seconds for the engine to warm up; 5. Press the foot brake, shift the gear to D, release the handbrake, then slowly release the foot brake, and the car starting process is completed.
When I first learned to drive, starting the engine really made me nervous. The correct steps are simple: sit properly, press the brake pedal firmly, and make sure the gear is in neutral or the P position for automatic transmission. Then insert the car key, slowly turn it to the ON position, wait for all the dashboard indicator lights to light up and then go off before turning to START to ignite the engine. Release the key as soon as the engine starts. Remember not to start on a slope, as the car may roll; also, don’t start in R or D gear, as the car may lurch forward. If it doesn’t start, it might be due to an old or drained battery—quickly find a friend to help with a jump-start or check the charging status. It’s better to warm up the engine before starting in winter to avoid difficulty due to stiffness. As a beginner, I always made sure to start in a quiet area of the parking lot. After practicing a few times, it becomes natural—the key is to stay calm and prioritize safety.
