How to solve the high water temperature issue in an old GL8?

If the car's water temperature is too high, you should not continue driving. First, find a safe place to stop, then turn on the hazard lights. After parking the car, open the engine hood to increase air circulation, which helps cool down the engine as quickly as possible. Check if the coolant level is sufficient. If it's low, do not add coolant immediately. It should be added when the engine is cold.
My old GL8 often overheats too. I usually park and turn off the engine first to let it cool down and avoid cylinder damage. Then I check if the coolant level is low or leaking, and top it up to the specified line. Next, I see if the radiator fan is spinning silently - if not, it might be a sensor or wiring issue. If the water pump is leaking or making strange noises, it needs replacement. A stuck thermostat can block the coolant circuit - if there's a big temperature difference between the upper and lower radiator hoses when touched, it's confirmed broken. Finally, cleaning the radiator fins prevents clogging. These steps have saved me several towing fees. I suggest regularly checking the cooling system condition to prevent unexpected issues.
