How to Solve the Heavy Steering Issue in Nissan Qashqai's Electric Power Steering?

The power source of hydraulic power steering comes from the engine, so hydraulic assistance is only available when the engine is running. While driving, avoid holding the steering wheel at full lock for extended periods, especially during turns and reversing. When the tire pressure is too low, the steering wheel may also become heavier. Therefore, it is recommended to check the tire pressure if you notice the steering wheel feeling unusually heavy.
Last time when driving the X-Trail, I encountered heavy steering. I first checked the tire pressure myself and found the right front tire was only at 1.8! After filling it up to 2.4, the steering immediately felt lighter. Remember, measuring tire pressure when the tires are cold gives the most accurate reading. If it weren't for the tire shop guy's reminder, I wouldn't have known that insufficient rear tire pressure in the X-Trail could also affect steering feel. The steering gear's electrical connector is located under the steering wheel; poor contact after driving through water on rainy days can also make the steering heavy—just spray some WD-40 on the connector to fix it. If the steering suddenly becomes heavy accompanied by a 'clicking' sound, it's likely the universal joint on the steering column is stuck, and special grease needs to be applied. Once at the repair shop, I saw a mechanic use a diagnostic tool to reset the electronic power steering program, and in just ten minutes, the steering became light again—it was truly amazing.
