How to Solve Shock Absorber Oil Leakage?
2 Answers
Shock absorber oil leakage cannot be repaired; the only solution is to replace it with a brand-new shock absorber. The oil leakage is caused by the aging of the oil seal. Once the shock absorber leaks oil, it will affect the car's chassis feel and handling performance. If the shock absorber shows severe oil leakage, it must be replaced immediately. During the installation of the shock absorber, a professional torque wrench must be used to tighten the screws according to the specified torque. After installing the new shock absorber, it is recommended to perform a four-wheel alignment to prevent the car from pulling to one side or uneven tire wear. It is advisable to choose original equipment manufacturer (OEM) shock absorbers. If OEM products are not available, opt for shock absorbers from reputable brands or those suitable for the owner's vehicle.
To be honest, I find shock absorber oil leaks quite common. A while ago, my car was driving particularly bumpy, and upon inspection, I found oil stains on the shock absorbers. In such cases, I think the first thing to do is to take the car to a repair shop and let a professional mechanic check it out—don’t try to fix it yourself. The mechanic will confirm whether it’s caused by aging or damaged seals, and usually, the entire shock absorber needs to be replaced because repairs are costly and not long-lasting. After I replaced mine last time, the driving experience became much more stable—safety first, after all. By the way, if ignored for too long, the car can easily lose control, especially when turning on slippery roads, so I check the suspension system every six months to prevent oil leakage issues.
