How to Signal for a Left Turn?

Generally, turning the signal lever upward (clockwise) indicates a right turn, while turning it downward (counterclockwise) signals a left turn. When overtaking, first signal left and then right. Signal left when entering a highway and right when exiting. Use the left turn signal when starting from a parked position.
As a veteran taxi driver with ten years of experience, timing and technique are crucial when using the left turn signal. Generally, press down the turn signal lever with your left hand until you hear a crisp click, indicating activation. Activate the signal at least 3 seconds before changing lanes to give trailing vehicles time to react. When turning left at an intersection, it's best to signal about 50 meters before the curve, and even earlier in rainy weather. Remember not to rush to turn off the signal after completing the turn—wait until the car is fully in the straight lane before releasing the lever to automatically deactivate it. If the signal remains on after straightening the wheel, manually turn it off to avoid confusing other drivers. Nowadays, some new cars feature a 'tap-to-flash-three-times' function, which is quite handy for short-distance lane changes.
